Matthew J. Platkin, who served as New Jersey’s attorney general from 2022 to 2026, has opened a law office along with three other attorneys who served with him in that office.

Platkin vows to focus on complex civil and public interest cases including ones involving consumer protection, technology, gun safety, antitrust and independent investigations — not unlike the issues he took on as attorney general.

“At Platkin LLP, we use the law to drive meaningful change in the face of injustice. When our democracy is under threat, powerful wrongdoers harm people with impunity, or gun violence endangers our communities, we fight back fearlessly and win,” the firm says on its website.

The firm’s tagline reads: “Built for the toughest fights. Trusted when the stakes are highest.”

Joining him on his legal team based in Newark are partners Angela Cai and Ravi Ramanathan, and counsel Aaron Haier.

During his tenure as the state’s attorney general, Platkin worked on gun regulation, reproductive rights, and police misconduct. He participated in or led as many as 40 lawsuits against the Trump Administration on environmental, immigration, constitutional and other issues.

He brought corruption charges against high-profile New Jersey Democratic power and insurance broker George Norcross. Those charges were thrown out by state courts.

The attorney general is appointed by the governor. Platkin was appointed by former Gov. Phil Murphy. Current Gov. Mikie Sherrill named federal prosecutor Jen Davenport to be Platkin’s successor as attorney general.
