Sundance, Inc. and Black River Bells, operators of several Taco Bell restaurants in the metropolitan Detroit area, will pay $100,000 and furnish other relief to resolve a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced. According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, Sundance and Black River Bells employed an area coach who exercised managerial control over several of their Taco Bell locations. Florida legislative committees approved two bills this week that could impact property-casualty insurance in the state. One would put some restrictions on litigation financing and the other would force more transparency on insurers’ payments to managing general agencies. A federal court judge has halted New Hampshire’s plan to end motor vehicle inspections. U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty granted a preliminary injunction on January 27 to prevent the state from implementing a new law abolishing the annual inspection program for non-commercial vehicles until and unless the state receives approval from the federal government that the plan is in compliance with the Clean Air Act. Barbara Tuszynski was concerned about her vision but confident in her insurance coverage when she went to an eye clinic last May. The retiree, 70, was diagnosed with glaucoma in her right eye in 2019. She had a laser procedure to treat it in 2022, and she uses medicated drops in both eyes to prevent more damage. The federal investigation into the crash of a private jet that killed six people at Bangor International Airport has been hampered by extreme weather, the airport’s director said Wednesday, including deep snow that has blanketed the scene and covered the burned wreckage. Oregon recorded fewer accepted disabling workers’ compensation claims in 2024 even as statewide employment continued to rise, new data from the state’s Department of Consumer and Business Services show. The Oregon Workers’ Compensation Division received 21,749 accepted disabling claims last year, down 1,244 from 2023. Employment grew by 34,800 workers during the same period, keeping the statewide claim rate at 1.1 claims per 100 workers. Fatal claims also fell sharply, from 42 in 2023 to 27 in 2024.
