North Carolina authorities arrested a man accused of setting a woman on fire, leaving her with with serious burns and damage to her house in Roseboro. Firefighters and deputies were called to a structure fire Saturday night in the town of Roseboro and found a woman with burns over about two-thirds of her body, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The woman, Courtney Witschger, said a man had forced his way into her home, and that the suspect left the scene on a bicycle, according to the sheriff’s statement. Albertsons Cos. announced a $774 million settlement to resolve all opioid-related claims, making the grocery chain one of the last major retailers to reach such a deal. Due to the settlement, the company recorded a charge of about $600 million last quarter, net of tax, that left it reporting a loss of roughly $480 million. The payout will take place over nine years. A Missouri waste management company has settled a federal lawsuit charging it rejected female applicants based on sex, the EEOC announced. Allied Services, LLC, doing business as Allied Waste Services of the Ozarks / Republic Services of the Ozarks will pay $200,000 to settle the sex discrimination lawsuit. According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, in May 2020, Jamie Mendoza applied to work for Republic Services as a garbage truck driver based out of Springfield, Missouri.
