Global reinsurance broker Howden Re has announced that Tim Radford has been appointed to the new role of Managing Director, Head of Lloyd’s Capital, which is set to help strengthen the organisation’s leadership across Lloyd’s market capital and investor engagement.

howden-logoIn this role, which sits within Howden Re’s Capital Solutions platform, Radford will reportedly be the central point of Howden Re’s Lloyd’s capital strategy.

As per the announcement, Radford will work across Howden Re Capital Solutions and Howden Capital Markets & Advisory (HCMA), the capital markets and insurance-linked securities (ILS) specialist unit of broking group Howden.

Radford will primarily focus on connecting Lloyd’s and London market capital with broader institutional investors. By integrating reinsurance, capital solutions, and advisory services, Radford will ensure a cohesive, client-focused strategy across the group’s specialist units.

Radford, who has been with Howden Re (formerly Howden Tiger) for a few years, joined the firm in 2023 from broker Aon, as Executive Director, Capital Solutions.

During his time at Aon, Radford served as a broker within the company’s Capital Advisory team with a specialist focus on Funds at Lloyd’s, where he both led and was heavily involved with the launch of Syndicates and capital raises across the market.

In addition, Radford also has specific ILS sector experience, gained at an ILS fund manager.

During his career, he worked at Securis Investment Partners, the specialist ILS and reinsurance investments manager, and also global reinsurer Swiss Re within the non-life and life ILS sectors and the traditional reinsurance space.

Commenting on Radford’s appointment, Bradley Maltese, CEO of Howden Re Global Specialty, said: “Lloyd’s remains a critical part of the global specialty insurance market. This appointment reflects our continued investment in market‑leading expertise and ensures we are well positioned to support clients, carriers, and investors as capital dynamics across Lloyd’s continues to evolve.”

Jarad Madea, CEO of HCMA, added: “Our clients and investors find immense value in the integrated approach to reinsurance expertise, capital solutions and advisory applied at Howden. Tim’s appointment strengthens the collaboration between HCMA and Howden Re, further enhancing our industry leading expertise and ability to deliver joined‑up advice and execution across the Lloyd’s ecosystem, which remains of great interest to investors.”

Radford’s appointment follows continued growth and momentum within Howden Re’s Capital Solutions platform with its successes in new Lloyd’s Syndicate launches and capital raising.

The division, which is led by Vijay Mavani, Managing Director, Capital Solutions, structures bespoke solutions that connect risk with capital and support clients in navigating increasingly complex balance sheet and market challenges.

In April, Howden Re appointed Grace Kavanagh as a Director within its Capital Solutions team, who joined with extensive market insight as well as strong carrier and client relationships.

With the Lloyd’s market seeing increasing use of its insurance-linked securities structure London Bridge 2 PCC as a vehicle for bringing investor capital, it is now a more flexible option for investors looking to source returns from the marketplace.
